SAN FRANCISCO — European developers and businesses are about to get their hands on Grok 4.5. SpaceXAI has signaled that its most capable model to date, released globally on July 8, will open to users across the European Union in mid-July, extending the reach of a model Elon Musk has described as "Opus-class."
The rollout would close the one region left waiting when Grok 4.5 shipped worldwide earlier this month. At launch, the model went live everywhere from the SpaceXAI console to Grok Build and the Cursor coding platform, but EU access was held back pending compliance work rather than any commercial decision.
Why Europe Waited
Under the EU AI Act, the most capable general-purpose models are treated as carrying systemic risk, which triggers a mandatory review before deployment. That process covers model evaluations, adversarial testing, incident-reporting frameworks and cybersecurity assessments. SpaceXAI, the AI unit folded into SpaceX earlier this year, worked through those requirements before clearing Grok 4.5 for the bloc. The company confirmed the mid-July timeline in its launch materials, as reported by Trending Topics.
For European engineers, the wait comes with an upside: they gain access to a model already being put to work elsewhere, with early adopters reporting strong results on coding and agentic tasks. Grok 4.5 was the first model trained jointly with coding startup Cursor, and it arrives in Europe as a polished, production-ready release rather than an early preview.
