AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla has opened U.S. order books for the Model Y L, the stretched, three-row version of the world's best-selling SUV, starting at $61,990 for a limited-run Premium AWD Launch Series. As of the weekend of July 11, the online configurator showed estimated deliveries in the October to November window, with the first customer cars officially scheduled to begin arriving in September.
A Bigger Model Y for American Families
Sold in North America as the Model Y Long Wheelbase, the Model Y L stretches 196 inches, roughly seven inches longer than the standard car, and swaps the cramped optional seven-seat layout for a dedicated two-by-two-by-two, six-seat cabin with second-row captain's chairs. Tesla quotes 325 miles of EPA range on 19-inch wheels, a 4.4-second 0-60 mph time, an 83 kWh pack, and 89 cubic feet of cargo space. It is only the second Tesla after the Cybertruck to offer vehicle-to-load and full PowerShare capability.
The timing matters. The Model Y L effectively fills the three-row gap left by the discontinued Model X, and it lands just as Tesla continues to dominate the U.S. EV market through the first half of 2026. Rather than slotting the car between the $49,990 and $57,990 Model Y trims as many expected, Tesla positioned it as the halo product of the lineup.
Loaded Launch Series Perks
Early buyers are being rewarded generously. Each Launch Series order includes one year of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), one year of free Supercharging, and one year of Premium Connectivity, plus a no-cost choice of any exterior paint, interior color, and wheel option. The cars also gain unique exterior badging, premium floor mats, custom puddle lights, suede dashboard inserts, and upgraded sill plates.
