SAN FRANCISCO — xAI has switched on Grok 5 Voice Mode for all users, giving everyone access to real-time spoken conversations with the company's most advanced model. The rollout turns a feature that had been limited to a small test group into a default part of the Grok experience.
The upgrade lets users talk to Grok the way they would a knowledgeable friend — asking follow-up questions, interrupting mid-sentence and getting answers back in a natural, low-latency voice. xAI says the system understands context across a long conversation and can switch tone, pace and even languages on the fly.
Conversation, Not Commands
Voice assistants have traditionally felt rigid, built around single commands and canned responses. Grok 5 Voice Mode is designed to feel like a genuine back-and-forth. It handles interruptions gracefully, picks up where a thought trails off, and keeps the thread of a discussion over many turns.
The feature builds directly on last week's launch of Grok 5, which xAI called its most capable model yet. Pairing that reasoning power with a responsive voice interface pushes the assistant closer to the kind of effortless, spoken computing Musk has long described.
